How To Install an Air Bag Suspension on a Truck

Your truck squats in the back every time you load up for a haul, and the ride feels harsh no matter what you are carrying. Learning how to install air bag suspension on truck setups is one of the most effective ways to fix that sag and get your ride height back under control.

What Air Bag Suspension Does

Air springs work alongside your factory leaf springs, not in place of them. They inflate to support extra weight when loaded and deflate when running empty, giving you control over ride height that traditional springs cannot match.

Preparing for Installation

Park on a flat surface, lift the rear end with a jack, and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheels for access to the axle and frame area, and inspect the frame for rust or damage before bolting anything new.

Mounting Brackets and Air Springs

Install the upper and lower mounting brackets according to your kit instructions. Secure the air springs and tighten every bolt to the torque specification in the manual. Under-torqued hardware can work loose on rough roads.

Running Air Lines and Compressor

Connect the air lines from each spring to the compressor and control system. Route lines away from moving parts, sharp edges, and exhaust heat. Wire the compressor to a fused power source and test the system before reinstalling wheels.
